I just recieved an e-mail stating that this web site was out of date and confusing and should be taken down!

Okay, many things here are out of date and that's just the nature of the web. If it confuses you, I'm sorry. But do not complain about it unless you have some helpful suggestions! I get absolutely NO feedback from local South Bristol residents at all. In the past I've offered current news and events. I set up the first on-line local forum for residents to discuss local items of interest. I put a lot of work and money into the web site and except for the wind mill farm fight, absolutely NO local feedback at all. No interest at all. Just now a suggestion to simply take the site down...

Well, I'm sorry if this site confused someone. I'm also sorry they couldn't take 5 minutes to make exact references to what confused them or to make reasonable suggestions on what to change or update. That would of course just be too much work on their part. After all , we all have busy lives with jobs, homes andd families that take up our precious time. How could I expect anyone to take 5 minutes to offer reasonable suggestions to improve this site.

So here's my official response. NO, the site will not be taken down because it confused some local resident. They should learn a bit more about the web before making such comments. This site serves more than South Bristol, who as a whole has done nothing in return for it's services. If I get the time out of my busy schedule, I may severely cut back the SB information and enhance the camera sections. I get plenty of positive feedback from the camera folks in comparison to nothing but a single complaint from a local about the SB side of the site.

If I'm coming off a little hard, my appologies. I'm just getting over being very sick and have a frustratingly hectic schedule to keep up with. I really wasn't in the mood today to see an e-mail demanding that I take down my site because it confused someone. Thanks Sherry, you really made my day... Now excuse me because I have to get back to work...

The wind mill farm projectfight is over! Thank you all who helped us defeat this enemy.

Special note: We'd really like to find some local South Bristol folk who could contribute to the site. This could be with pictures, history, stories and joining in on the mailing lists and on-line discussions, or just some suggestions! There is some important info in the General message board and some feedback from other residents whould be nice!

South Bristol is a beautiful rural town in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. South Bristol was founded in 1838, but I moved here just a few years ago when I met my wife who alreay lived in this area. We searched for months to find the 'perfect' home and found a wonderful old 1830's farm house. It happened to be in South Bristol. I have come to greatly appreciate our town, it's beautiful scenery and friendly people. When I finally picked up my old hobby of photography, it was a natural progression to create a web site that would showcase the town we live in and it's surroundings. It was also the only excuse I could think of to get my wife to allow me to buy new photographic equipment! ;-)

South Bristol may be a "small rural town", but it has a wealth of history, attractions and beauty. It is home to the Gell Center for writers and creative arts; the C.E. Kenneth Mees Observatory, Arbor Hill Grapery, the J. Warren Cutler Scout Reservation for the Boy Scouts of America, the Cummings Nature Center, miles of access to Canandaigua Lake, Bristol Mountain Ski Resort and a host of other things to see and enjoy. By the way, the Mees Observatory with it's 24 inch telescope is located on Gannet Hill. That "Gannet" is from Frank Gannet, the newspaper and media mogule who once lived there...

So, browse around and view our town. Since this is a new web site, it will go through a bit of change as I get the time to work on it and I'm always open to suggestions. Right now we're planning on doing 'Seasons', starting off with some Winter shots we recently took on our first photo expedition for the web site. We are also looking for local history: stories; biographies; facts about the town, buildings and people, and old maps & photos etc... There will allways be more to show than we can possibly photograph and display here, but we'll keep adding and exploring. And if you know of any interesting places that should be here, let us know!. We hope to expand into old barns and houses, scenic views, birds and just about anything else we can think of.

For those of us with 'slow' dial-up connections: There are basically two types of pages on this site. Information pages that have mostly text and will load fairly fast. The photo pages are just that, pages of photos. I have made them as small as possible and used a compressed format but these pages will still take a while to load...

Thanks for visiting South Bristol Views and let us know what you think!
