How do you upload an avatar to these boards?

I am new here today. This is my first day logged in.
How do you upload an avatar image to your profile so it shows it next to your username and your posts?
I went to the drop down arrow next to my username, and both "user control panel" & "profile".
I don't see the option to add one.

I see an option to "show avatar".
I can't yet find where to add an avatar.
I'm sure it's simple and I just haven't found the option yet.
